In the summer of 2021, a group of Northwestern University alum and students filmed in Alvina Krause Studio a devised toy theatre piece inspired by the short story “The Mermaid Astronaut” by Yoon Ha Lee. In the story, Essarala, a mermaid from a mermaid planet, joins a crew of aliens to sail among the stars.
